Veggie boy gazed sadly at the Ultrakids HQ.  There was still time to stop this, he thought to himself. Maybe if I could just convince the others that this is all a bad idea...
But what was there to prove? Over-the-Hill-Good-Guy was dead. Laserboy was in shock. Invisigirl had officially announced it to the other kids that lived in the Ultrakids building.
Laserboy. He could stop this. OTHGG had named him leader of the Ultrakids. Veggie boy knew that people might not listen to him, but surely they would listen to their leader.
Suddenly Sonicboy walked out the door. He was wearing a big backpack and water bottle. He glanced at Veggie boy. "Seeya Vege."
Then he walked away.
Veggie boy looked at his friend leave in despair. It couldn't end this way.
He ran into the HQ with no time to lose. "LASERBOY!" No response. The second floor was empty. So was the third.
Veggie boy ran through the stairway up to OTHGG's office.
"Laserboy!"
"Vege?"
There was Laserboy, sitting in OTHGG's chair.
"Lase, you have to do something."
Pause. "I don't understand."
"Sonicboy just left. You have to stop this before anyone else leaves!"
"Well what should I be doing?" Laserboy asked nervously.
"You're the leader of the Ultrakids! Just say the word and get everyone back together!" Veggie boy said, waving his arms around frantically.
Laserboy sighed. "Invisigirl already made the announcement. It would be...y'know, awkward to just come out of nowhere and contradict her."
Gulp. Veggie boy looked at his best friend helplessly. "So you're not going to do anything?"
"Invisigirl is a lot older and smarter than I am. Whatever she decides is probably for the best," Laserboy said.
"How can you say that? What good will come out of splitting up? We have to get through this together!"
"Vege, I think we all just need some time apart. To sort things through. I can't give a speech bringing us back together right now since OTHGG's...he's...."
Laserboy bit his lip and stared at the wall. Veggie boy felt a pit form in his stomach.
"...gone."
Veggie boy took a deep breath. "Listen Lase, I'm feeling the same things you are. OTHGG was my adopted dad too, remember? I'll miss him too...but he's in a better place. You know that." Veggie boy gave a weak smile. Laserboy kept staring at the wall.
"I just need time, Vege."
Veggie boy turned to leave. Laserboy had made his point. There was no use arguing any more. "I'll see you later, Laserboy."
Laserboy nodded. Veggie boy left the office.
He went to the fifth floor, entering a door titled "Elite Six." There were two bunk beds were he, Laserboy, Odor boy, and Sonicboy used to sleep in, with Invisigirl's and Sonica's beds in a room next to them. Veggie boy walked over to a closet and took out some of his clothes, stuffing them into a knapsack. He also put in his Carrot gun, some toiletries, and his Bible. He sighed.
"It's time to get serious, Veggie man."
Then he exited the Ultrakids Headquarters and walked towards nowhere.
