The Official Ultrakids Website

I saw this guy in concert yesterday night at Rutgers University. Also saw his documentary 1040. It was the most awesome documentary I've ever seen. Really powerful, check it out at 1040movie.com.
Times are changing, man...

Okay yeah I've been away for a while. I really haven't bothered to update this site because as far as I am concerned, it's dead. Probably come here to watch Ultrakids but that's about it (speaking of which, I want to upgrade to Vimeo...)
Anyways, been working towards publishing my book. I'm currently setting up a new website for the book and will post it here as soon as it's done.

Kid Ninja Seven 01/08/2010

Okay, here's the video. Called Kid Ninja Seven. Tim and I choreographed the whole thing and it was pretty fun doing the special effects (fireballs are always fun). So far, I've watched it like fifty times. I love it! I wish I knew how to do this kind of stuff during the previous Ultrakids. Then it would truly be a spectacle (well, Ultrakids 3 was prettty spectacular already). Okay, enough talk, here it is.
Hey, definitely tell me what you think of it. I'd love any feedback. I have to admit, acting sure is fun! Notice I rarely get to act in my movies because directorial duties are so overwhelming already. But when making something short and fun, hey, count me in!
Mimes are fun too...

Hey guys, just finished editing a new video yesterday. It's called Kid Ninja Seven, and I have to admit: it looks really good. Lots of special effects (primarily me throwing fireballs). Filmed it yesterday with my brother Tim and my sister Katie. We got some pretty decent choreography as well.

I'm going to post the thing as soon as I can, which should be around tomorrow, so stayed tuned.

It's been a while since the last post, and that's because I just moved into a new house. After living in the same one for...uh, my lifetime (no numbers here). Anyway, here are some stuff from the Ultrakids archives:

The file above is a Word document that the Ultrakids team and I created to help write the script. It made it easy so when two characters interacted, we immediately knew what the responses would be.
This document was key when creating the Ultrakids and their dynamic personalities. Some of you know that I've been working on a new book project. During the process (which is still continuing), I didn't create a file like this, not even a bio for the main characters. Because of that, the characters bounced back and forth, ever changing daily, because there was no solid personality of themselves set in stone (or in a Word document). Lesson learned: know who your characters are before you write them.

Here's a scene that we didn't have time to film in the first Ultrakids...I think. I'm not even sure what these files are that I'm uploading, just judging them by title name. So if I'm wrong, please correct me.

In my insanely ambitious mode while making Ultrakids 2, I also wanted to make a car game to go with the movie. Why? Ego. Of course that failed. So here's a picture of how the Porkmiester car looked like. It tries to crash into your Ultra-mobile, which shoots lasers in the front, carrots from the back, sonic stuff from the sides, and in general, plain dumb.
Some of you are saying, "Wow, an Ultrakids game sounds fun. Why don't you make one, Josh?" My answer is "Give me money and I will." Just kidding. It does sound fun. I really want to make an Ultrakids RPG (role-playing game for the uninformed) to put on this site.
...
Gotta go email someone...
Heh heh.

This is a collection of shots showing the production process of Astro Boy, which by the way, is a really good family movie.
The thing is, most behind the scenes videos have the director or whoever talking about the production, but in this video, there is no talking. Just watching the animators work, someone pitching the storyboards...it's a lot of good stuff.

Here's a little clip from the Jellyfish Labs community site. You have to become a member to watch it (which I am) so I hope I don't get ordered to take this video off. Anyways, it's really informational, if you want to learn how to green screen, this is it.
So anyway, if you want to see the actual stuff, check out JellyTelly.com. Maybe in the future I'll be able to pitch an Ultrakids show to them...eh, wishful thinking. Better than pitching it to Disney and having the Ultrakids talk about the weather.

Here are the original designs for the Ultrakids costumes in late 2006. Some of them are pretty radical; I mean, the actors thought the actual costumes were bad enough.
None of the actors were cast when I was sketching these, FYI.

The Ultra-Suits

Picture
This design is pretty close to the actual costume that my mom made. The red sleeve enders (I don't know what to call it) were taken out as well as the red belt. And who wants to wear yellow pants? Love the logo though, it's so cool.
Theses Ultra-suits are not like the Bat-Suit or whatever. They have no super-powers or gadgets or anything. They're just ordinary t-shirts that Over-the-Hill-Good-Guy made for the Ultrakids, canonically. That's something I love about the Ultrakids take on the Superhero genre: the very un-superheroness of it all. The Ultrakids don't even have real powers. They're like superhero wannabes.  But still, they can fight evil and all that good stuff. There's almost an analogy there that you don't need super powers to save the world.
Oh man, that's deep.
Okay, taken up enough word space.

Benchers 10/07/2009

I made this in 2006. It started out as doing a music video of my cousins and brothers dunking basketballs, but ended up having a story of some sort. This is probably the first video I made where I actually was thinking of how it would look like after it was edited. Angles and stuff, you know. Before this, most of my vidoes were composed of one long shot after the other.  I'll post some of them in a little while.

This may be old news, but I'm not sure how many people know about the BOYCOTT of the new movie based on "Avatar: The Last Airbender."

After getting of 8000 people to sign the petition to change the racist casting choices and being completely ignored by Paramount Pictures, Racebending.com is organizing a boycott of the new movie, where you can sign here.

For me personally, it's not like I care heavily about the situation, but it's just plain stupid to cast white people as Asians. C'mon, what kind of Caucasian parent is gonna name their kid Aang?

Oh yeah, and when the Ultrakids movie comes out in theaters a couple years from now, you can be assured that all the actors are still gonna be Chinese in that one too!

So join the boycott and don't see "The Last Airbender", coming out SUMMER 2010.

It's not gonna even be that great of a movie anyways, y'know, with M. Night Shyamalan directing and writing the script. You wanna see the special effects? There's a whole movie dedicated to that: G. I. Joe.
